Emotion

As students of the Ageless Wisdom, we are very aware that the cutting edge of human development is the mind. We also know that the soul is made of subtle mental matter. Desiring to align with the soul and have it irradiate the mind, we easily fall prey to living in the head.

Of course, we read that Humanity is polarized in their emotions. But, it is also easy for us to speculate that we are at the forefront of human evolution. Therefore, I and we might subtly denigrate the emotions. We might even paraphrase the teachings and say: "The emotions have no reality and are man made".

However, the Tibetan Master D.K. in A Treatise on Cosmic Fire pg. 660 says: "As evolution proceeds, the astral body should become positive to the mental, and thus prove incapable of being swayed by thought currents, and the separative processes of that plane, and negative to the buddhic plane, or receptive to that plane". In other words, in order to aid in evolution, our work is to heal the emotional body and encourage the development of the higher emotions. Never, are the emotions to be dominated by the mental plane, but if strengthened, they will become the support for the development of the higher mental functioning.

In the Tibetan's description of the preparatory schools (Christ College is modeled on this description given in Letters on Occult Meditation by Alice Bailey) he states that the schools should look out over a body of water. This is because the purification of the personality is ever to be in the student's awareness. And, the purification of the emotional body is of first priority.
